All pictures are taken at the majestic Edinburgh Castle just an top of the Royal Mile. I even got there on time after reading bout the firing of the guns from Zhi Xin's blog. Unfortunately, I did not see anything. Perhaps, the guns did not fire becoz it was raining heavily at the time. Sigh...what luck!

On the first day, I had booked a trip with Timberbush Tours to Loch Lomond. The tour started very early so I had to rush breakfast and get a cab to town. I reached too early though and it was freezing cold. I had an option either to tour Loch Ness and try to look for Nessie or tour Loch Lomond which was supposedly more beautiful.

In the end, I chose Loch Lomond. The tour guide was a real loon. He told us jokes the whole way on the bus and he was never found wanting on entertainment value especially with his queer Scottish accent. We started off taking a bus tour of Glasgow, though there wasn't much you could actually see. The guide was very informative as well as he tried to make fun and bring some colour along the mundane drive to Loch Lomond. Once we reached Loch Lomond though, it was simply so beautiful you can ignore everything else in the world.

Some chose to walk the length of the Loch, I chose to take a boat ride. Although it was pricey, it was an 1/2 hour ride through the length of the Loch and you could simply marvel at its beauty. These photos do no justice at all to the natural beauty of Loch Lomond.

Then we went to the Highlands and to the town of Aberfoyle for lunch. Of course, the Highlanders are famous for Rob Roy and William Wallace. The lunch in Aberfoyle wasn't great but then Scottish food in general is quite poor. (I did not dare try haggis) Aberfoyle itself was a beautiful small town set upon the Scottish Highlands.

After lunch, we went to view more Lochs like Loch Katherine and we managed a few stops before in the end stopping at Stirling Castle. It was huge but probably not as good as Edinburgh Castle. The castle was steeped in history and was stiill in remarkable shape.

The castle tour was supposed to be the end of the highlights but the tour guide was good enough to bring us to another route to take a look at the Forth River and the bridges there. The view was once again breathtaking.

I ended my day getting some dinner (fish n chips) at the New Yorker Bar near to my B n B and watching England defeat Hungary on the TV in my comfy room. A satisfying day indeed.

On the 3rd Day, I woke up early and ordered Scottish porridge instead of the usual cooked breakfast. It was a regretable choice though as it was oat porridge as opposed to rice porridge.

Anyway, I left for town early. Since I reached town too early, I decided to go to Carlton Hill to soak in the view of Edinburgh. It was really lovely and probably much less the trouble than scaling either Salisbury Crags or Arthur's Seat. I also managed to go into Jenners for a brief look around. After that I had a nice breakfast (again) at KFC before heading off into the National Galleries of Scotland. Being rather dismissive of the beauty on display, I quickly rushed through the ordeal and then decided it was time to board the bus back to the airport and then back to London. Edinburgh is a must visit!

I went to Bath on 20th May 2006. It was a really lovely town though it was really too windy. It was so windy that one could feel as though your hair was gonna be blown off from your head. This is the town of Jane Austen, Napolean III, Nelson Traffalgar and Charles Dickens. Enjoy the pictures.

John Wood (the elder) created the Assembly Rooms because he apparently was so fond of the Roman idea. This is also where Jane Austen based some of her novels about the gossips going on within the Assembly Rooms.

The circus are a formation 0f houses designed by John Wood (the elder. The father of the younger) to resemble the formation of stones at Stonehenge. It seems awfully posh does it not? On top each building there are acorn shapped engravings. While each appartment has it own engravings. Each level of the building is also designed with different patterns.

Look at the 'snuffer' (the con shapped thing on the fence). It was used to put off the candle before a cab sent someone home. At those times, the cab in Bath was some sort of a similar version of the Chinese carriage (I don't know what you call it in English, but it is called a 'tandu' in Malay). The cab will send the person all the way into his room.

Apparently this really beautiful crescent shaped 'row' of houses had some sort of covenant requiring all of them to have either white,black or brown coloured doors. These houses were designed by John Wood (the younger).

La Sagrada Família (Catalan name), or La Sagrada Familia (Spanish name), is a large Roman Catholic basilica under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The formal title of the basilica is the Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família or Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family. It is the last, and perhaps most extraordinary, of the designs of the Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí. The geographical location of La Sagrada Família is 41°24′13″N, 2°10′28″E.

La Sagrada Família was planned in the late 19th century and construction work, under the supervison of Antoni Gaudí, commenced in the 1880s. After disagreements between the founding association and the original architect Francesco del Villar, Gaudí was assigned the project in 1883 and created an entirely new design. At first, the basilica stood in an empty field over a mile away from urban Barcelona.

Gaudí worked on the project for over 40 years, devoting the last 15 years of his life entirely to this endeavour; on the subject of the extremely long construction, Gaudí is said to have joked, "My client is not in a hurry." Work was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War in 1935 and recommenced in the 1950's, after the end of World War II.

Gaudí died in 1926. Parts of the unfinished building and Gaudí's models and workshop were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War by Anarchists. The design, as now being constructed, is based both on reconstructed versions of the lost plans and on modern adaptations. Since 1940 the architects Francesc Quintana, Isidre Puig Boada, and Lluís Gari have carried on the work. Sculptures by J. Busquets and the controversial Josep Subirachs decorate the fantastical façades

The final secular design of the Spanish surrealist Antoni Gaudí, Casa Milà Barcelona is an apartment building with a fanciful aura. Wavy walls made of rough-chipped stone suggest fossilized ocean waves, while doors and windows look like they are dug out of sand. A comical array of chimney stacks dances across the roof.

This unique building is widely but unofficially known as La Pedrera (the Quarry). In 1984, UNESCO classified Casa Milà as a World Heritage site, and it is today used for cultural expositions.

I managed to watch a flamenco performance at the Cordobes (www.tablacordobes.com). The performance was very different from what we usually expect of Asian dances. The dance seemed more 'feisty' and according to one, even seemed to him like a person possessed. Still, I have to say it does resemble a bit like the dances we can see @ the Portuguese Settlement in Melaka. Too bad i forgot to bring my camera and had to depend on my camera on my cellular phone which resulted in the poor quality of the pictures.

Port Vell was very windy when I took a stroll around the Rambla de Mar to get to the Barcelona Aquarium. It was really sunny and there were a lot of people lying down along the bridge to get some sun bathing done. The sea was also very clean and clear until you could see fish swimming along.

These are photos of the famous street of La Rambla. Here it is a very bazaar like atmosphere...something like a carnival. You can see a lot of people in different costumes basking, people beggin for money and food, people selling gifts and other crafts, and people doing magic tricks. Apparently a very famous trick is people eating balloons for no clear reason.

It was an utterly tiring, yet, fulfilling trip as we made our way from Buckingham Palace to St. James Park and finally ending up at the Tower of London. What a shame that we could not in the end go inside the Tower of London as it was closed.

Since my girlfriend has decided to visit me here in cold UK, it would not be right if I did not bring her around beautiful Oxford.

From the shopping arcades of Bicester Village to the ancient bookstore of Basil Blackwell, I hope I was a good enough tour guide for her liking.

My program itinery (which is how it looks like now after some modifications) included a visit to:

2. South Park and Headington Hill Park
3. Cowley Road
4. Oxford Uni Botanical Garden
5. Oxford Uni Church of St. Mary
6. Queen's College, Oxford Uni
7. Christ Church College, Oxford Uni
8. Hertford College, Oxford Uni
9. Radcliffe Camera
10. Bridge of Sighs
11.Bodleian Library
12. Alice Shop
13. Blackwell's Bookstore
14. Ashmolean Museum
15. Martyr's Memorial

And of course, no tour would be complete without some shopping which spanned from Cornmarket Street to Bicester Vilage. :)
